The Mazda MX5 is a lightweight two-seater roadster, of front-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, built by Mazda in Hiroshima, Japan. The model was introduced in 1989 at the Chicago Auto Show. The Mazda MX5 was conceived as a small roadster – with light weight and minimal mechanical complexity limited only by legal and safety requirements; technologically modern, but a philosophically direct descendant of the small British roadsters of the 1960s such as the Triumph Spitfire, Austin-Healey Sprite, MG MGB and mainly the Lotus Elan.

The second generation Mazda MX5 (NB) was launched in 1998 and the current (NC) model has been in production since 2006. It continues to be the best-selling two-seat convertible sports car in history and by February 2011, 900,000 Mazda MX5s have been built and sold around the world, with more than 100,000 still on the road in the UK as of June 2011.

Since the launch of the third generation Mazda MX5, Mazda consolidated worldwide marketing using the Mazda MX5 name, though enthusiasts in the US still refer to it as Miata, a name that means "reward" in Old High German, and the vehicle in 2011 was still marketed by Mazda in the US as the Mazda MX5 Miata in printed showroom brochures.

The Mazda MX5's first generation, the NA, sold over 400,000 units from 1989 to 1997 – with a 1.6 L (98 cu in) straight-4 engine to 1993, a 1.8 L (110 cu in) engine thereafter (with a de-tuned 1.6 as a budget option in some markets) – recognizable by its pop-up headlights. The second generation (NB) was introduced in 1998 with a slight increase in engine power; it can be recognized by the fixed headlights and the glass rear window. The third generation (NC) was introduced in 2005 with a 2.0 L (120 cu in) engine.

It was launched at a time when production of small roadsters had fallen into almost total disuse. The Alfa Romeo Spider was the only comparable volume model in production at the time of the Mazda MX5's launch. Just a decade earlier, a whole host of similar models - notably the MG B, Triumph TR7, Triumph Spitfire and Fiat Spider - had been available.

The body is a conventional, but light, unibody or monocoque construction, with (detachable) front and rear subframes. The Mazda MX5 also incorporates a truss marketed as the Powerplant Frame (PPF) which connects the engine to the differential, minimizing flex and contributing to responsive handling. Some Mazda MX5s feature limited slip differentials and anti-lock braking system. Traction control is an option available on NC models. The earlier cars weighed in at just over a ton, with engine power output usually 116 bhp (87 kW). The later cars were heavier, with higher power engines.

With an approximate 50:50 front/rear weight balance, the car has nearly neutral handling. Inducing oversteer is easy and very controllable, thus making the Mazda MX5 a popular choice for amateur and stock racing, including, in the US, the Sports Car Club of America's Solo2 autocross and Spec Miata race series and in the UK the Ma5da racing championship.

The Mazda MX5 has won many awards including Wheels Magazine 's Car of the Year for 1989 and 2005; Sports Car International's "best sports car of the 1990s" and "ten best sports cars of all time"; 2005-2006 Car of the Year Japan; and 2005 Australian Car of the Year. The Miata has also made Car and Driver magazine's annual Ten Best list 11 times. In their December 2009 issue, Grassroots Motorsports magazine named the Miata as the most important sports car built during the previous 25 years.

The Mazda CX7 is a mid-size crossover SUV model from Mazda, the production version of the MX-Crossport concept car. The Mazda CX7 is built in Hiroshima, Japan, starting in early 2006. The Mazda CX7 was shown publicly for the first time at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show in January. Production officially began on February 20 at Mazda's Ujina#2 factory in Hiroshima. The Mazda CX7 went on sale in spring 2006 as a 2007 model. It is also Mazda's first mid-size SUV since the Navajo was discontinued in 1994.

Mazda CX7's Power comes from the same 2.3 L straight-4 MZR engine used in the Mazdaspeed3 and Mazdaspeed6 coupled with a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission, and tuned to produce 244 hp or 182 kW (Australian model 175 kW) at 5000 RPM and 258 ft·lbf (350 N·m) of torque at a low 2500 rpm, 99% of the maximum torque is available to 5000 rpm.

Though outwardly similar, the Mazda CX7 and the Mazda CX-9 do not share platforms. The Mazda CX7 shares the front suspension of the Mazda MPV minivan and the rear suspension from the Mazda5. It shares its turbocharged engine with the Mazdaspeed6 and uses a 6-speed automatic transmission.

This is an update to the original. The exterior design features revised front and rear fascias with the front adopting the larger five-point grille design similar in appearance to the recently redesigned RX-8, MX-5 and Mazda3/Axela. The new interior features redesigned gauges with blackout meters that feature three-dimensional dials, a 3.5 inch super-twisted nematic (STN) monochrome and 4.1-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) colour Multi Information Display (MID), (positioned at the top of the instrument panel), Bluetooth compatibility, and a Blind Spot Monitoring System. The car was unveiled at the 2009 Canadian International Auto Show. The diesel version now includes a manual transmission, and has been on sale in Europe since 2009.

The Mazda 5 is a compact MPV built by the Japanese manufacturer Mazda since 1999 and now in its second generation (third in the Japanese domestic market as of July 2010).

Mazda 5

The first generation Mazda 5 was built in Japan and exported to Europe and Asia. A re-badged version was sold by Ford in a few Asian markets (including Japan) as the Ford Ixion or Ford MAV. The first generation Mazda 5 was a two- or three-row, five- or seven-passenger vehicle, while the second generation adds a third row of seats for up to six passengers in American form, and seven passengers outside the United States. Both generations feature near-flat floors, folding or removable second row, and fold-flat rear seats.

First generation (1999–2004)
When released in 1999, the Mazda 5 was one of the least expensive seven-seaters available on market. The 1999 Mazda 5 used Mazda's CP platform. It was available with either front or all wheel drive and was equipped with four-speed automatic transmission. As the Mazda 5 was based on a sedan platform, it was less modular than some if its adversaries such as the Opel Zafira and Toyota Ipsum and was therefore relatively easy to maneuver. The second and third row seats could be folded and removed as on many other minivans.

Second generation (2005–2010)
The new Mazda 5 model has been for sale since summer 2005. It is now sold as the Mazda 5 in all markets apart from Japan. While classified by Mazda as a mid-sized wagon, it competes with other vehicles classed as Compact MPVs in Europe, and is viewed as a mini-minivan in the United States. It is based on Ford's global C1 platform, meaning it shares many parts with the Mazda3. The Mazda 5 replaced the Mazda MPV as Mazda's minivan offering in most export markets.

Third generation (2011–)
The third generation Mazda 5 debuted at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. This model received revised styling, marketed by Mazda as Nagare and Furai concepts. In Europe the new Mazda 5 is offered with either a 1.8-liter four-cylinder or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with direct-injection and Mazda’s i-stop start/stop technology, which will reduce emissions by 15 percent. Both engines include a six-speed manual transmission as standard, as well as new environmental friendly features.

The Mazda RX8 is a sports car manufactured by Mazda Motor Corporation. It first appeared in 2001 at the North American International Auto Show. It is the successor to the RX-7 and, like its predecessors in the RX range, it is powered by a Wankel engine. The Mazda RX8 began North American sales in the 2004 model year. Mazda announced on August 23, 2011, that Mazda RX8 will be discontinued from production citing the 2011 model as the last line of production. The Mazda RX8 from the European market was removed last year after the car failed to meet local emissions standards. Without volume from Europe & rising Yen prices, Mazda couldn't continue to justify the continued sale of the Mazda RX8 in its other markets including North America.

Mazda introduced rotary engine vehicles in the US in 1971, beginning with the RX-2, RX-3, RX-4, RX-5, and finally three generations of the RX-7 sports car. However, the lack of creature comfort and user-friendliness, coupled with the high price tag and declining interest in sports cars and coupes at this time, led Mazda to pull the RX-7 from most major markets except Japan. After 1995, Mazda suffered from a relatively undistinguished product line in the US save the MX-5 Miata. As popular interest in import tuning and performance cars resurged in the late-1990s, thanks in part to various popular cultural influences such as the Sony PlayStation video game Gran Turismo, Japanese automakers waded back into the performance and sports car market in the US. In addition, Mazda endeavored to rejuvenate itself around this time, partially with financial and management assistance from Ford, and successfully developed a new product line of high quality cars with desirable styling and superior driving dynamics, beginning with the Mazda6 and followed by the Mazda3, paving way for the arrival for Mazda's next-generation rotary sports car.

Mazda RX8

The first version of the Mazda RX8, chassis code SE3P, and JMZSE, was produced from model year 2003. It is powered by the RENESIS 13B-MSP (multi side port) Wankel 654×2 rotary engine displacing 1.3 litres non-turbo (1308 cc). At launch, the RENESIS was available in standard and high power versions. The 4-port standard RENESIS produced 232 hp (173 kW) and was coupled with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The 6-port high power RENESIS was only available with a six-speed manual transmission and was rated at 250 hp (190 kW). For the North American market, Mazda revised the reported output rating of the standard and high power RENESIS soon after launch to 197 hp (147 kW) and 238 hp (177 kW), respectively. With exhaust ports now located in the side housing, the RENESIS boasted improved fuel efficiency and emissions rating over the 13B-REW employed by the last RX-7, thereby making it possible to be sold in North America.

In 2009, Mazda engineers improved the Mazda RX8 body rigidity through the addition of structural reinforcements, by adding a trapezoidal strut tower bar and enhancing the local rigidity of the front suspension tower areas. The updated Mazda RX8 was also 90 lbs lighter than the previous (2003–2008) models. Additionally, the rear suspension geometry had been reconfigured for better handling by improving driveshaft rigidity, lowering NVH levels, and improving overall performance. The updated Mazda RX8 had a different gearing ratio (on manual transmission-equipped cars) that was lowered from 4.444 to 4.777 for improved off-the-line performance. While minimal, these performance changes gave the updated Mazda RX8 increased acceleration and performance, as well as even greater responsiveness to the accelerator pedal. Mazda claimed that the updated (2009–2011) Mazda RX8 was a significantly faster car than the previous (2003–2008) model car due to the lighter weight, lowered gearing, and improved suspension.

The Mazda Demio is a subcompact car manufactured by Mazda introduced in 1996, now in its third generation, marketed globally also as the Mazda 2 — and previously marketed under nameplates including Mazda 121, Mazda Metro and Ford Festiva Mini Wagon. The third generation Demio earned the 2008 World Car of the Year title.

Originating with the introduction of the Mazda 121 in 1987, this B-segment small car was based on the Mazda D-platform. Ford also used a version of the first-generation DA 121 known as the Ford Festiva. Mazda later released the Autozam Revue in 1990 with the next generation of the D-platform DB. It was redesigned for January 1993, still based on the same DB platform. Kia also built versions of the DA and DB, both for itself and for Ford's sale as Ford Aspire in the United States which Kia sold as the Pride and Avella.

1st generation (DW, 1996-2002)
When it came to redesigning the Revue, Mazda came up with a tall hatchback, minivan-esque package (the Revue was already over 1,500 mm (59.1 in) tall). Introduced in a time full of negative press coverage, the Mazda 2 became a surprise hit for Mazda in Japan, and also foreshadows the current crop of B-segment minivans such as the Opel Meriva, Fiat Idea and the Renault Modus.

Production of the new Mazda 2 started in July 1996 (sold as the 121 outside Japan) used the DW platform. Ford retailed a version in Japan as the Ford Festiva Mini Wagon. In 1998, the Mazda logo was changed from the previous logo to the current logo. The Mazda 2 was updated in 1999 with a revised exterior, cabin air filtration, retuned automatic transmission, and available DSC due to a 2002 redesign.

2nd generation (DY, 2002–2007)
The Mazda 2 was redesigned in 2002 on the DY platform. The Mazda 2 name continued in Japan, while the rest of the world dropped Mazda 2 and other names in favor of Mazda2. Since debut, 2 has been well received by the market pushing its Japanese domestic sale to as high as 7th place.

The badge-engineered Ford version, the Ford Fusion, is no longer made, as Ford began importing the Ford Fiesta on the Global Ford B3 platform which is based on Mazda's DY platform. The car is produced for Europe at a Ford plant in Valencia, Spain.

3rd generation (DE, 2007-present)
This Mazda 2 version is built on the new DE platform, which Ford also used for the 2008 Ford Fiesta. It deploys light weight material and reduces the overall dimensions of the car.

Sales of production vehicles began in 2007-07-05 at Mazda, Mazda Enfini and Autozam dealers. The vehicle was updated in 2008, and went on sale at Mazda, Mazda Enfini and Autozam dealers. A SKYACTIV variant of the Mazda 2 is planned to debut at the end of June, 2011. It is said to achieve 30km/L(10-15) with a 1.3L SKYACTIV-G and CVT. It will also come with Mazda's i-stop system. The Mazda 2 SKYACTIV was shortlisted for Car of The Year Japan 2012.

The Mazda 6 is a mid-size car produced by the Japanese car manufacturer Mazda since 2002. The Mazda6 has sold over one million units worldwide since its introduction, hitting that sales milestone faster than all previous Mazdas.

The Mazda 6 was the first example of the company's new Stylish, Insightful, and Spirited design philosophy followed by the Mazda2 in December 2002, RX-8 in August 2003, Mazda3 in January 2004, Mazda5 in the summer of 2005, MX-5 in October 2005, and Mazda CX-7 in November 2006. The Mazda 6 is the successor of Mazda 626, also known as Mazda Capella and Mazda Cronos. The 2002 Mazda 6 is essentially the 4th generation Mazda 626 as the Mazda 6 continues on the G-platform, progressing from the GF-platform 626/Capella to the GG-platform Mazda 6.

The Mazda 6 is currently raced in the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GTS class. Mazda finished first in the manufacturer's championship standings. Mazda 6 drivers also finished first and second in the Touring Car driver points

First generation (2002–2008)
The Mazda 6 model lineup consists of a four-door saloon, a five-door hatchback and a five-door Estate, marketed in North America as the "Sport Sedan", "5-Door" and "Sport Wagon", respectively. In Australia, the lineup starts with Limited, available only as a saloon. Then comes the Classic, available in saloon, hatch or estate. The Luxury model is next available in saloon and hatch versions. Topping the range is the Luxury Sports model, available only as a hatch. In New Zealand the lineup consisted of 2.0L GLX (saloon only), 2.3L GSX (saloon, hatch, and estate), and the range-topping 2.3L Limited (saloon and hatch). The lead stylist for this model generation was Moray Callum.

Second generation (GH; 2008–2012)
The Mazda 6 second generation made its premiere at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. The new Mazda 6 is based on the Mazda GH chassis platform, a revised version of the GG chassis which Ford also still uses as their CD3 platform. Mazda continues to provide three body styles, including 4-door saloon (sedan), 5-door hatchback and wagon. A number of journalists have already praised its electrically assisted steering for being considerably improved compared to the last generation, providing more feedback to the driver. The hatchback model even has a trunk space which beats the larger rival Ford Mondeo/Opel Insignia (hatchback) by 200 liters with rear seats folded down. This model of the Mazda 6 was awarded 2010 Family Car of the Year by What Car? magazine. At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Mazda announced their new 2011 Mazda 6.

Third generation (2012)
Mazda will redesign the Mazda 6 for the 2013 model year. However, all North American models will now be assembled in Hofu, Japan. This is due to ongoing efforts to increase global manufacturing efficiencies.

The Mazda 3 (known as the Mazda Axela in Japan) is a compact car manufactured in Japan by the Mazda Motor Corporation. It was introduced for the 2004 model year, replacing the Mazda Familia (323 or Protegé in export markets). A more performance-oriented version of the Mazda 3 is marketed as Mazdaspeed3 in North America and Mazda 3 MPS in Europe. A second generation Mazda 3 for the 2010 model year was unveiled in late 2008, with the sedan premiering at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the hatchback at the Bologna Auto Show.

First generation
The Mazda 3 has been generally well-received by the automotive press for its performance, handling, styling and interior, with some describing it as feeling like a more expensive sport sedan despite its value-oriented price. Some criticisms have included fuel economy and crash test results (only receiving four out of a maximum five stars from the EURO NCAP Safety Testing Programme) the latter of which was rectified by making six airbags standard. In 2006 the Mazda 3 was the second best-selling car in Canada and the best selling car in Israel during 2005-2007.

Second generation
In October 2008 Mazda released pictures and video showing the next generation design of the Mazda 3. Mazda has restyled the exterior to reflect its then design language and a dual exhaust. Two engines are offered in the US and Canadian markets, the 2.0L petrol engine offered in the previous generation and a new 2.5L inline-4 that is shared with the second-generation Mazda6.

The C1 architecture, a collaboration of Ford, Mazda, and Volvo, from the previous generation is carried over. The new model is marginally wider, longer and lighter than the previous generation Mazda 3. The 2.3L engine was replaced with a 2.5L engine that produces 167 bhp (125 kW; 169 PS) and 167 lb·ft (226 N·m) of torque. In other markets, more engines are offered including a new 2.2L turbodiesel engine.

2012 update
The 2012 Mazda 3 with SkyActiv powertrain was unveiled at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, February 2011. It comes with Mazda’s SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter, direct-injection gasoline engine, and SkyActiv-Drive 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. There are minor exterior updates: new headlamps, revised grille and air intakes, and a reshaped rear valance panel. Car and Driver reported that such a Mazda 3 can reach estimated EPA fuel-economy ratings of 30 mpg city and 39 to 40 highway.

Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese automotive manufacturer based in Fuchū, Aki District, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. In 2007, Mazda produced almost 1.3 million vehicles for global sales, the majority of which (nearly 1 million) were produced in the company's Japanese plants, with the remainder coming from a variety of other plants worldwide.

The company website states that name "derives from Ahura Mazda, a god of the earliest civilizations in West Asia...the god of wisdom, intelligence and harmony..." Ahura Mazda is the Persian – Zoroastrian God. The company website also notes that the name "also derives from the name of our founder, Jujiro Matsuda."

Mazda began as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd, founded in Japan in 1920. Toyo Cork Kogyo renamed itself to Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1927. Toyo Kogyo moved from manufacturing machine tools to vehicles, with the introduction of the Mazda-Go in 1931. Toyo Kogyo produced weapons for the Japanese military throughout the Second World War, most notably the series 30 through 35 Type 99 rifle. The company formally adopted the Mazda name in 1984, though every automobile sold from the beginning bore that name. The Mazda R360 was introduced in 1960, followed by the Mazda engines in 1962.

Beginning in the 1960s, Mazda put a major engineering effort into development of the Wankel rotary engine as a way of differentiating themselves from other Japanese auto companies. Beginning with the limited-production Cosmo Sport of 1967 and continuing to the present day with the RX-8, Mazda has become the sole manufacturer of Wankel-type engines mainly by way of attrition (NSU and Citroën both gave up on the design during the 1970s, and prototype Corvette efforts by General Motors never made it to production.)

The Cooper Tires Atlantic Championship powered by Mazda is a North American open wheel racing series. It is the top level of the MAZDASPEED ladder, a driver development program which rewards season winners of one level with automatic rides at the next level. Since 2006, the Atlantic Championship has been run exclusively with Swift 016.a chassis powered by Mazda-Cosworth MZR 2300 cc (2.3L) DOHC inline-4 engines producing 300 bhp (224 kW). The cars are capable of speeds in excess of 175 mph (282 km/h).

Formula Mazda Racing features open wheel race cars with Mazda engines, adaptable to both oval tracks and road courses, on several levels of competition. Since 1991, the professionally organized Star Mazda Series has been the most popular format for sponsors, spectators, and upward bound drivers. It is the second-highest level on the aforementioned MAZDASPEED driver development ladder. Engines for the Star Mazda series are all built by one engine builder, certified to produce the prescribed power, and sealed to discourage tampering. They are in a relatively mild state of racing tune, so that they are extremely reliable and can go years between motor rebuilds.

Spec Miata has become one of the most popular and most affordable road racing classes in North America. The Spec Miata (SM) class is intended to provide the opportunity to compete in low cost, production-based cars with limited modifications, suitable for racing competition. The rules are intentionally designed to be more open than the Showroom Stock class but more restricted than the Improved Touring class.

Spec RX7 is also a popular club racing class primarily due to the availability of first generation RX7 cars and the low startup cost. Spec RX7 (SRX7) in some regions is noted as one of the most cost effective sports car classes.
